On June 4th around noon, Eric and Matthew started on a adventure that will take them many, many miles north on the Appalachian Trail. Before the official hike we all took a short walk up Springer Mountain to the southern terminus of the AT. After we got back down, I wished them well on this tremendous adventure. I told them to have a lot of fun. They both smiled and I could tell they were excited to be heading north. Their Mom got one last chance over the phone to tell them to “Be careful.Watch out for bears, snakes, ticks, bugs etc,etc .” By 8:00 PM the first night, Matthew called to tell us they had hiked sixteen miles up the trail and were doing fine. Of course they ran in to some heavy rain but they were setting up the tent and keeping dry. I hope to post small reports for those who may be interested. Their cellphones do not always get a strong signal and they need to conserve batteries so the reports may be brief.
